Feeling sad and down from time to time is a normal and healthy human emotion. But if you feel that you just can't shake it, and are not sure why, or it is becoming a constant in your life, it may be time to seek therapy.

Depression is one of the most common mood disorders in the U.S. While it is linked to such factors as genetics, physical illness, medications, and major life changes or trauma, its exact cause isn’t known. Depression can manifest itself in many ways, affecting your body and mind, including how you think, feel, and manage activities of daily living.

The areas in which we specialize in depression are: Individual Therapy and Group Therapy.

Depression types

Types of depression include but are not exclusive to:

  • Dysthymia, or persistent depressive disorder, a mild depression that may last for as long as two years
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Postpartum depression, following childbirth
  • Seasonal affective disorder or SAD, which commonly occurs in the winter when sunlight is minimal
  • Bipolar disorder, which is characterized by high and low moods
  • Psychotic depression

Depression Treatment and Therapy

Because we are all different, no one experiences depression in the same way. That’s why Healthwise offers a variety of depression therapies.

Your treatment may include lifestyle changes, education, psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), problem-solving therapy, antidepressant medication(s), or a combination of these.
