New Year’s Resolutions

As the new year swiftly approaches, we often hear talk of new year’s resolutions; to lose weight, to save money, to go back to school, or to start making healthier food choices. While these are all great things to aspire to pursue at anytime throughout the year, it’s important to take a step back and think about the greater picture and the small doable changes that can be made to help move you to a better, more satisfactory life. Something that feels like a slight shift can bring about great positive changes in our life and long-term future.100663819 (1)

Think about yourself as part of a system; that of your family, your workplace, your community, the world. When you make a change, others around you are forced to change to adapt to the new behavior, attitude, or outlook you have chosen to follow. It’s as if all part of our “systems” are interconnected like the part of a machine; a small change in the speed, direction, or timing of a “gear” causes all other “gears” to be impacted in order to continue to work effectively. Consider that your choice to move in a positive direction will in turn positively impact those around you.

The key is to set your intention. When we put into mind and into words our intention for the life we aspire to lead, we are allowing the universe to be our witness. Saying it out loud begins to bring our hopes and dreams into a tangible reality, simply by setting the intention. Perhaps this year, rather than choose a resolution to be or do something totally different, why not set intention…put into mind and into words, on paper or out loud, where you are headed? Set the intention of what you would like your life to be and watch it unfold into what you wanted for yourself. Know that when you focus on what you would like to happen, you are more likely to experience it just that way. And trust that you are exactly where you need to be right now to get to where you want to go.  Written by Lauren Robbins, MS, LPC, LADC Licensed Professional Counselor at Healthwise.
