Give yourself the resources you deserve
Disordered eating can affect people of all ages, both female and male, but is more common in teenagers and young adults. Eating disorders are characterized by dysfunctional eating behaviors and weight regulation. They may be associated with depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, distorted body image, or issues of control. Long-term, eating disorders can lead to significant psychological, physical, and social concerns and are not to be brushed under the rug or ignored.
Common types of eating disorders include:
- Anorexia nervosa, characterized by marked underweight
- Bulimia nervosa, also known as binge-purge
- Binge-eating disorder, where large amounts of food are consumed
- Exercise-eating disorder, also known as orthorexia
If you or your loved one is battling an eating disorder, the first step to recovery is asking for help.
At Healthwise, our individual and family therapies include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or talk therapy
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
