Acceptance & Commitment Therapy


Acceptance and commitment therapy is an approach that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies to affect behavior change. Acceptance refers to the “acceptance” of negative or unpleasant emotions and behaviors, and learning how to react or respond to them differently. This approach differs from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in that it doesn’t try to control negative emotions or behavior; rather, it teaches people to “notice” or be mindful of thoughts, feelings, memories, and sensations and embrace them for positive change.

This therapy is often used to treat anxiety disorders, addiction, and depression.
